Accidental Death & Dismemberment insurance, or AD&D, covers you for a lump-sum amount in the event that you lose your life or sustain certain key permanent injuries.  You may request any coverage limit that you feel is appropriate, but generally the maximum sum available is 5 times your annual salary.  An example of the coverage would be:

Sum Insured: $500,000

 

You may already have coverage such as this under a group benefit or extended health insurance plan.  However, that policy might not cover the risks that you will be facing, for example if you are travelling to a high-risk part of the world or if you are engaged in a dangerous activity.  You may also feel that your existing coverage is not sufficient and that you would like to apply for supplementary coverage.
